I don't often get to say this, but what a WONDERFUL company to work with. Customer service was the best. From first phone call until the last detail, I was informed and taken care of. Container was delivered at the timeframe I was told. I wasn't home when it was delivered but my son said not only was the delivery spot on, but the driver gave him great tips about leveling and care. The spot for the container was between a hill and another structure, and the driver parked it perfectly the first time! I highly recommend this company to those thinking about getting a container! Price was great also - best I was quoted! Thank you for making this one of the easiest experiences I have had!

Sales staff were very good at communicating information about the options and costs for the container. It did take a little longer than expected to get the delivery scheduled. The driver did a good job placing the container and assisting with the initial blocking. The container is in great shape, I ordered a 40' x9' one use unit. Can't wait to fill it up.

When I ordered the container, I was informed that earlier scheduled deliveries would be completed first. After that, we received 3 inches of rain along with a couple of smaller rains, which required an additional week for the ground to dry out. Altogether, the container took roughly a month to arrive.

I stayed in regular contact with the sales representative, Cathy Ford, as well as the company dispatcher, Dave Davis. Given the heavy rains, I can understand how deliveries may have been delayed.

The driver called ahead and gave me the exact time he would arrive, and he showed up right on schedule. The container — a 40' HC, 9'6" one‑trip unit — was in perfect condition inside and out. We set it on railroad ties in both the front and rear. The driver was easy to talk to, answered all my questions, and took photos of the container's interior and exterior to document its condition and delivery. After signing off, he headed out.

I am satisfied with the entire operation. I can clearly see why dry ground is necessary — the 8,000‑pound container and the flatbed trailer left noticeable impressions in the soil. If the ground had been wet, it would not have been ideal. The driver reassured me of that as well.

How much does a shipping container cost in Michigan? +

Michigan pricing starts at $2,067 for a 20ft Wind and Water Tight container delivered in Detroit, captured from Container One on 6 August 2026. The same unit is $2,067 delivered in Lansing and $2,309 delivered in Grand Rapids. Price moves with size, grade, what is in stock and how far the truck runs, so the number that matters is the one quoted to your ZIP code. Delivery is included in every figure above.

Why does Lansing cost the same as Detroit when it is four times farther from the depot? +

Because that is what the current capture shows, and we would rather point it out than let it look like a rounding error. Every Michigan container in this capture ships from a depot in the Detroit area. Detroit is about 18 miles out, Lansing about 82, and every size and grade prices identically in the two cities. Grand Rapids, at about 148 miles, is where the distance finally shows up, at roughly two hundred and forty dollars more on most grades. The clearest proof that the difference is freight rather than the box: the customer pickup price for a 20ft Wind and Water Tight container is the same in all three cities, and only the delivered price moves. Pricing changes, so the number we quote you will be the live one for your ZIP on the day you call.

Do I need a permit for a shipping container in Michigan? +

Michigan splits that into two questions with two different answers, and most of the trouble comes from people answering one and never asking the other. The building code half is statewide: the Stille-DeRossett-Hale Single State Construction Code Act, Public Act 230 of 1972, applies one code everywhere, and Section R105.2 of the Michigan Residential Code exempts one-story detached accessory structures of 200 square feet or less from a building permit. A 20ft container at 160 square feet sits under that line and a 40ft container at 320 square feet does not. The zoning half is entirely local, delegated to counties, townships, cities and villages by the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act, Public Act 110 of 2006, and it genuinely changes at the city line. Call the zoning office of the government that has your address before you call anyone about a building permit.

The rules seem different in Detroit, Grand Rapids and Lansing. Are they? +

They are, and reading the three side by side is the fastest way to understand Michigan. Detroit does not name containers in a residential context at all, so a container is read as an accessory structure and the answer comes from a determination on your parcel. Grand Rapids names them twice, once to rule a container out as a permanent accessory or storage structure and once to allow a temporary portable storage container that is smaller than a 20ft box. Lansing names them once, permits them only as temporary structures, and puts a two week clock on them with two possible extensions. Three cities, three different instruments, one state. Which is why the advice is always the same: call the government that has your address, and ask it to read you the section.
